When I am sitting with a client, I enter the chart with them in a deep, mutual dialogue as though it is a story or a dream we are tending together. The chart, a living image, is a geometric shape with its own dynamic energy that gives rise to a series of questions we use to clarify the life event that brought the person to me. I feel as though we are in the lap of the gods, and in these moments I recall the alchemical maxim, "As above, so below".

Whether I see a client only once or several times, my approach always emphasizes process. What is emerging in this person’s life at this moment in time? When did it begin astrologically? How long might the challenging energy last or window of opportunity remain open? Astrology helps us reframe or revision the crossroads in our lives, giving us hope in the midst of despair, caution when it is needed, and the courage to transform.

The most profound transformation occurs when the client and I work once per month over an extended period of time. Then, the dialogue deepens and the subtleties of the chart are more fully revealed. Monthly consultation enlivens the client’s imagination, cultivating the seeds planted in their own psyche and allowing the two of us to see the effect of their choices. Then astrology changes from an abstract idea into a living experience.

I have been a professional astrologer for more than 40 years, and it remains a great and wondrous mystery to me. I feel fully alive in process with my clients; it awakens the buried mystic-philosopher-scientist in me. My certainty about astrology comes from decades of study, observation, applying astrological insight to prominent people and cultural moments, and following the patterns of my life.

When asked how I survived my liver transplant, the answer is always the same: I trusted the archetypal energies revealed in my chart and knew I needed to cooperate with them. I had to change my life to thrive beyond the surgery. I know, in a very practical way, just how beautifully As above, so below can guide us.
